Easy Spring Cleaning Tips For Your Warehouse

It’s that time of the year again - spring is here! This season is a great time to do some deep cleaning, remove items you no longer need and get more organised. This project can overwhelm warehouse managers and business owners, so we are sharing these helpful tips to help you get started.

1. Choose a time for spring cleaning your warehouse

Having a plan is important when executing a spring-cleaning project. Depending on the size of your warehouse, plan out days to execute your cleaning process and select a less busy time for cleaning and organising your warehouse. A great time is when the area is less crowded or after work hours. If you are hiring a contractor or an industrial cleaning company, try to schedule them during weekends or during hours when staff levels are reduced. This will lessen the impact on your operations and productivity.

2. Communicate your plan with your employees and get their inputs

If you and your employees are doing the cleaning yourself, make sure you communicate your plan and get everyone involved. It is also best to get the suggestions of your staff for even better solutions. They can be a great source of information on the areas and things that need to be fixed and organised in your facility.

Divide your employees into smaller teams or groups and assign them specific cleaning and organising tasks within specific areas of your warehouse.

3. Prepare a checklist

It is helpful to have a checklist for all the small cleaning and organising tasks you need to complete by a certain deadline. This checklist will typically include scheduling machines and material handling equipment (including conveyor systems, dock equipment and forklifts) inspections with professionals to ensure that they are in good working condition. This will save you time and money in the long run. Also, make sure that the outside of your warehouse is clean and outdoor equipment (i.e. loading dock ramps) is in good condition.

4. Evaluate your inventory and think about your current layout

Spring cleaning is a great opportunity to evaluate your inventory. Throw away items that are already expired or damaged. Clean shelves, pallet racks and remove any empty pallets.

This is also the best time to think about the current layout of your warehouse. Having enough storage space for your inventory, layout efficiency and accessibility are some things to consider when reorganising things with your team.

5. Consider hiring an industrial cleaning professional
